SNSYC member Gerry Wolfe will be looking at two technological developments that will be of interest to boaters. 

The first new equipment that Gerry will demonstrate is the inReach satellite technology from Garmin which allows you to send and receive messages, track and share your journey and — if necessary — trigger an SOS to get emergency help from the 24/7 global monitoring center.  He’ll compare the inReach technology with the more common earlier SPOT system. Note that this discussion is intended for boaters who do not currently have an inReach and would like to decide if it is suitable for them.

The second new technology is 3D printing.  If you are curious about the technology and would like to understand a bit more about it Gerry will bring a 3D printer with him and will demonstrate how it works.  Gerry will also talk about some of the items that he’s created with his machine for his boat using the technology.  You will not leave knowing how to use a 3D printer, but you should be able to decide if you want to get more involved in this technology in the future.
