THE STORY OF A WOLF AND A WOMAN
WITH
CHERYL ALEXANDER
In 2012, a lone wild wolf arrived on a small island archipelago close to the city of Victoria. Local authorities said he couldn’t survive. There were no deer to hunt, no year-round source of fresh water ... and no other wolves! They said that he would be a danger, as he was so close to the city. They tried to trap him. They debated shooting him. Yet somehow, against the odds, the wolf found a way to survive and thrive, demonstrating remarkable resilience and adaptability. This wolf is known as Takaya. Join Cheryl Alexander as she shares his story and her six year journey in learning about him. Her talk will be illustrated with stunning images and some video footage not previously shared publicly...followed by a Q & A.
“The story of Takaya and Cheryl reminds me of my long-ago relationship with the chimpanzee David Greybeard. It is only if you observe a complex animal over time, and with an open mind and heart, that you can get a true understanding of the sentience of that animal, his or her being-ness. Cheryl Alexander exemplifies this approach – she is not afraid to become emotionally involved. And she knows how to tell a story that can be understood and enjoyed by anyone. I hope that this will help create a better and more informed relationship between humans and wolves.”
