Come Learn to Sail
The Clubs offers a number of opportunities for children and adults within the community to become involved in sailing.
In the Fall there is an after school program that runs for 6 weeks, from the end of September to mid November. The program is structured for a combination of fun learning for those just starting out, and racing for those with some competitive juices. This program is for Middle and High School Kids and follows the Sail Canada Curriculum.
During the Spring there is a School League that offers kids from Middle and High School the ability to have fun sailing, as well as the chance to race in regattas for their school. This program runs for 8 weeks, from the middle of April until the middle of June and follows Sail Canada Curriculum.
During the Summer months of July and August, The Club offers sailing day camp programs for ages 7 and up. These programs are part of the Sail Canada Program. Children age 10 and under have a full day, one week course; while kids age 11 and up covering two week courses. There are levels of advancement for kids in each age category that challenges proficiency.
All the programs are taught or lead by fully qualified instructors all of whom have graduated through our own programs. The courses are designed to teach safety, have fun, and learn new skills that will last a lifetime. Everyone is welcome! You do not need to be a SNSYC Member. Courses are eligible for the Children's Fitness Tax Credit. All instructors are Sail Canada certified. SNSYC reserves the right to reassign sailors at the discretion of the instructor.
For adults wanting to learn the basics or advanced sailing in keelboats or dinghies we offer private lessons for 1 or 2 people for $50 per hour. Contact the Club Manager if you would like to have private lessons.
Junior Member's and guests can take part in the fun sail program. They run from Mid June to Mid September and are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 PM to 8PM. Junior Members are free and guests pay $10 per session.
