Come Learn to Sail
The Clubs offers a number of opportunities for children and adults within the community to become involved in sailing.
Race Team runs in the spring and in the fall and has 3 programs, opti, Beginner and advanced. The Opti group sail solo on Opti boats, The beginners on 420's and advanced on 420's and Lasers. There needs to be minimum registrations in each course to proceed. You register on line below in the bottom box. .
In the Fall there is an after school program that runs for 6 weeks, from the end of September to mid November. The program is structured for a combination of fun learning for those just starting out, and racing for those with some competitive juices. This program is for Middle and High School Kids and follows the Sail Canada Curriculum.
From mid-April to mid-June, our School League offers Middle and High School kids the ability to have fun sailing, and the chance to race in regattas for their school. This program runs for 8 weeks and follows Sail Canada Curriculum.
During July and August, The Club offers sailing day camp programs for ages 7 and up. These programs are part of the Sail Canada Program. Children age 10 and under have a full day, one week course; while kids age 11 and up covering two week courses. There are levels of advancement for kids in each age category that challenges proficiency.
All the programs are taught or lead by fully qualified instructors all of whom have graduated through our own programs. The courses are designed to teach safety, have fun, and learn new skills that will last a lifetime. Everyone is welcome! You do not need to be a SNSYC Member. Courses are eligible for the Children's Fitness Tax Credit. All instructors are Sail Canada certified. SNSYC reserves the right to reassign sailors at the discretion of the instructor.
For adults wanting to learn the basics or advanced sailing in keelboats or dinghies we offer private lessons for 1 or 2 people for $75 per hour. Contact the Club Manager if you would like to have private lessons.
Junior's and guests can take part in the fun sail program. They run from the end of June to the end of August and are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 PM to 8PM. $10 per person per session.
Opti Basic - $350
Level 1: A CANSail accredited introduction to sailing an Optimist Dinghy. With two sailors per boat, children learn the FUNdamentals of sailing in a comfortable and fun environment. Work on balance, steering, and making the boat move using the sail! Lots of games and activities for new sailors and those with limited sailing experience!
Opti Advanced - $370
Level 2: (Pre-req: Opti Basic)
A CANSail accredited course for advanced Optimist sailing. Children learn to sail by themselves! Young sailors become more independent and they continue to develop Opti Basic sailing skills while more advanced skills are gradually introduced, further building on the FUNdamentals of sailing. Fun activities and games help to solidify new skills!
CANSail Basic - $620
Levels 1 & 2: An introductory course for new sailors or those with limited sailing experience. The course focuses on safety, balance, steering, sail trim, and seamanship. Beginner sailors will learn the FUNdamentals of sailing and how to work as a team with two sailors per boat. Activities and games are a big part of learning physical literacy for sailors!
CANSail Advanced - $660
Levels 3 & 4: (Pre-req: CANSail Basic)
Sailors build on existing FUNdamental skills, working towards skill proficiency in a variety of conditions and situations. Sailors are introduced to concepts such as reading the wind and waves, advanced boat handling, beginner racing skills and rules, and sportsmanship through on water games and activities.
CANFast - $680
Level 5: (Pre-req: CANSail Advanced)
CANFast incorporates the higher level sailing skills. The focus is on integrating boat handling and fast sailing skills with fun. Centered around a training camp atmosphere, sailors will refine advanced sailing skills and learn tactics, strategy, racing basics, and regatta preparation.

Please note that a cancellation fee of $50 (plus applicable credit card transaction fees) will be charged on ALL cancelled registrations. No refunds for cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the start of a course.
All courses are subject to a minimum enrollment. If placed on a wait list, interest in enrollment is assumed. Should a vacancy arise, automatic enrollment in the course will take place and the cancellation and enrollment policy takes into effect.
