Come Learn to Sail
The Clubs offers a number of opportunities for children and adults within the community to become involved in sailing.
Fun Sail
Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 8 during July and August. This is not an instructional session so everyone should know how to set up a dinghy. $10 person
Race Team
The SNSYC Race Team is a program open to sailors with a basic level of sailing experience and are interested in trying out more competitive dinghy racing. The team is currently running in Optimists and 420's giving sailors the opportunity to both learn how to race and advance their current skillset in a welcoming and safe environment.
Practices this season for both 420 and Opti sailors will be running on Saturdays from 12:30-4:30 starting September 21 and running until November 2nd. During practices sailors will be taught the basics of racing, participate in drills to aid in skills relevant to racing and continue to grow in their understanding of racing theory and tactics.
Throughout the season sailors will have the opportunity to participate in Provincial regattas hosted both on the Island and Mainland at other yacht clubs, which provide an amazing opportunity to test their skills in a new competitive setting. Regattas do require the participation of both parents and sailors to help with transport and planning beforehand and are an additional to the cost of participating in the team. If interested in participating in these events sailors will need to communicate their availability and interest to instructors by a set deadline throughout the season and there must be enough interest amongst the team in order to attend.
As the Race teams run during the Spring and Fall it's important for sailors to come prepared for all types of weather that we encounter during these seasons. It is recommended that sailors come prepared with rain jackets and pants, waterproof shoes (boots recommended for colder sessions), plenty of warm layers as well as extra clothes to wear after practices.

The Club is offering the opportunity for those who would like to learn more about sailing larger boats; from beginners to dinghy sailors who would like to ‘Upgrade’ and crew who want to learn how to be a skipper with confidence….. OR. ….those who just need to learn from someone else.
Using the Capri, our own ‘easy to handle’ keel boat, we are offering instructional/familiarization courses that will cover getting the boat ready, leaving the dock, boat handling, points of sail, plotting a course, anchoring, safety on board, how to get back to dry land and how NOT to panic.
Each lesson is 3 hours and cost $75.00 per hour, lessons may or may not be individual so you a welcome to split the cost and bring a friend.
The course will help get you out on the water with confidence and help get you home safely. Contact the Club Manager if you would like to have private lessons.
